कोलोराडो । कोलोराडोस्थित नेपाली सामाजिक संस्थाहरू स्थानीय नेपाली समाजका सम्पत्ति हुन् । हामी तिनको र तिनमा कार्यरत पदाधिकारीहरूको सफलताको हार्दिक कामना गर्दछौँ । साथै, एक जनचासोको विषयप्रति सबैको ध्यानाकर्षण पनि गर्न चाहन्छौँ ।

एउटै व्यक्ति एकभन्दा बढी संस्थामा कार्यकारी वा सञ्चालक पदमा कार्यरत भइदिंदा उनको संस्थाप्रतिको निष्ठामा आशंका र संस्थाहरूबीच हितको टकराव (conflict of interest) को स्थिति पैदा हुन सक्दछ । यो समस्यालाई खास गरी 501(c)3 मान्यता प्राप्त संस्थाले सम्बोधन गर्नैपर्ने हुन्छ, अन्यथा संस्थाले कर-मुक्त हैसियत गुमाउन सक्दछ । यस्ता संस्थाले राजनैतिक दलहरूसँग आबद्ध वा राजनैतिक क्रियाकलापमा संलग्न पनि हुनुहुन्न । यी सबै जटिलताहरूबाट हाम्रा संस्थाहरूलाई जोगाउन हाल कार्यरत पदाधिकारीहरू र भविष्यमा पदका आकाङ्क्षा राख्ने व्यक्तिहरूलाईसमेत हामी नम्रतापूर्वक निम्न आह्वान गर्दछौँ ।

एउटा भन्दा बढी संस्थामा एकसाथ पदधारण गर्ने आकाङ्क्षाको परित्याग गरौँ । सेवाका लागि एउटा संस्था रोजौं, त्यसबाहेकको अरू संस्थामा अरूहरूलाई सेवा गर्ने मौका दिऔं ।

संस्थाहरूलाई पनि उपर्युक्त सुझावलाई आफ्नो संस्थामा पदधारणको अनिवार्य सर्त बनाउनेतर्फ सोच्न हामी आह्वान गर्दछौँ ।

Public Appeal
To: Nepali Organizations in Colorado and their Officials (Current and Aspiring)

Colorado-based Nepali social organizations are our assets. We wish these organizations and their officials well. However, we raise an issue of concern here.

When a person holds decision-making posts in more than one organization simultaneously, it potentially raises concern as to which organization is the person more loyal to and also whether there is a conflict of interest between two organizations. Especially, a 501(c)3 organization has to appropriately address these issues, else it may lose its tax-exempt status. Furthermore, a 501(c)3 organization is not permitted to engage in political activities or activities of an organization that is affiliated with a political party. It is then incumbent upon all of us in the community to protect our organizations from such pitfalls. Hence, we humbly make the following public appeal to both current post-holders and future aspirants of posts in our Nepali organizations:

Please shun the temptation of simultaneously occupying posts in more than one organization. Choose one organization for yourself and leave other organizations for others to serve.

We also urge organizations to consider making the above a requirement for serving as an official of the organization.
